Why do law firms look for a ZipRecruiter alternative?
ZipRecruiter is a general job board: a posting for an associate attorney sits on it beside every other kind of job, in every industry.
For a busy office hiring across many role types at once, a general board is a sensible tool.
Legal roles are a harder fit on a general board: applications arrive from every industry, and the screening work lands on the firm.
The legal boards below publish their prices, so the cost of a posting can be compared before you sign up.
There is also the shape of the purchase.
A firm that hires one associate and one paralegal a year may not want a plan at all — it wants to pay once for one posting, see it live, and move on.
Several legal boards sell exactly that.
Which legal-only boards can replace ZipRecruiter?
LawFirmHires is a job board built only for legal jobs: attorneys by level and practice area, and the staff around them — paralegals, legal assistants, legal secretaries, intake, receptionists, docketing, billing, eDiscovery and firm administration.
A Standard post is $199 and a Featured post is $399 at launch pricing (regular $299 and $499), each a one-time payment that runs 30 days and is published the moment payment goes through.
Candidates apply on the firm's own form or inbox, and there is no candidate database to manage.
Firms that are always hiring can move to a slot plan: $899 a month for up to 10 live posts or $1,749 a month for up to 25, arranged by contacting LawFirmHires.
Current terms are on the pricing page.
Lawjobs.com sells per-job packages: Extended Reach at $795 (a 30-day listing plus a 2-week ad on a regional ALM eNewsletter) and Ultimate Reach at $1,299 for a 60-day listing that adds an ALM eNewsletter placement, a print ad in an ALM newspaper, spotlight placement in search results and distribution through ALM's partner network.
Its base package, High Visibility (a 30-day listing), showed two different prices on Lawjobs' own two pricing pages on the day we checked ($695 on one, $765 on the other), so confirm the current price before you budget.
Every package includes online job and applicant management, monthly performance reports and full resume export.
It fits a firm that wants newsletter or print reach bundled around a posting.
The Above the Law Job Board is the simplest of the three: the post-a-job form lists a Standard Listing at $200.00, visible 45 days, with a Featured option also offered on the form.
It fits a one-off legal listing: the form sells listings per post.
What do the subscription-style legal boards cost?
iHireLegal sells job slots rather than single posts.
Monthly terms are $369 for 1 slot, $450 for 3 slots and $799 for 10 slots; quarterly terms run $316, $405 and $733 a month for the same counts.
Jobs can be swapped in and out of a slot as hiring needs change, and iHire says there is no long-term commitment — plans can be upgraded, downgraded or canceled at any time.
Every ad includes branded email alerts, automatic 15-day refreshes, a free career site and company profile, and applicant management tools; iHire says it promotes ads across the iHire network and partner sites like Google, Indeed and JobGet.
It fits an employer that is hiring for legal roles continuously; a firm with one opening this quarter would be paying for slot capacity it is not using.
LawCrossing sells subscriptions instead of single posts.
Its pricing page advertises a 14-day free trial on all plans, and the monthly plan it labels Most Popular — Professional — is $699 a month for unlimited job postings plus 10 sponsored job slots.
A post can be set to be visible to all visitors or only to LawCrossing's paid members, and annual plans sit alongside monthly ones.
It fits an employer that treats legal posting as an ongoing channel rather than a one-off hire.
Do association job boards work for legal staff roles?
Two associations run job boards law firms can use for staff hiring, and the rates below were confirmed on each board's own site.
The ALA Job Board (Association of Legal Administrators) charges members $330 for a Standard 30-day post, $540 for an Enhanced 30-day post with featured placement and a blind-box option for anonymous postings, and $690 for a Premium 60-day post that adds featured-employer placement, increased reach through partners and resume search.
Non-member rates are $530, $740 and $890, and a 3-job Standard package is $790 for members ($1,270 for non-members).
The NALS Career Center prices by membership.
Its Job Flash package posts a job for 30 days and emails it to 2,700+ legal professionals (self-reported), at $399 for NALS members and $499 for non-members.
Premium Job Flash, $499 / $599, adds high placement in search results and highlighted display; Ultimate Recruitment, $699 / $799, adds distribution through a network of job sites and search engines.
Job Flash email advertising starts at $299.
Member rates apply to members of the association.
If your firm already belongs to one of them, these boards put a staff posting in front of the association's audience.
Can a law firm use Indeed instead of ZipRecruiter?
Indeed is the other general board a firm likely already knows.
Many jobs can be posted free, subject to Indeed's terms, conditions, quality standards and usage limits — although some jobs are sponsored only, such as those aggregated from a career site, a data feed or an applicant tracking system, and Indeed reserves the right to require that a job must be sponsored for any reason.
When sponsorship is needed, Indeed publishes no fixed price: pricing is generated by its recommendation system using factors such as job competitiveness, hiring timeline and the supply of job seekers, a minimum price appears on the sponsorship page, and the employer can set a different amount as long as it meets that minimum.
That flexibility suits a firm with budget discipline and patience for screening general applicants.
How should a legal employer choose?
- Cost shape. One or two hires a year points to a one-time post: LawFirmHires at $199 (launch pricing) or Above the Law at $200.00, with Lawjobs.com's per-job packages a step up. Constant hiring points to slots: iHireLegal, or LawFirmHires' own slot plans.
- Audience. A legal-only board trades raw reach for relevance; a general board trades relevance for reach. Association boards add a member audience at member rates.
- Where the listing appears. Check whether the price buys one board or distribution across many sites, and whether the extra distribution reaches people who would apply to a law firm.
- How applications arrive. Some boards route candidates through their own inbox and tools; LawFirmHires sends them to the firm's own form or inbox.
- Commitment. LawFirmHires' single posts are one-time payments with nothing that renews. Slots and subscriptions renew, so check the cancellation terms — iHireLegal states its plans can be upgraded, downgraded or canceled at any time, while several boards here list no contract terms on the pages we checked.
Whatever you choose, the prices above are the ones each company published on its own site when this page was checked — worth re-confirming before you budget.
Which one should you choose?
Stay on ZipRecruiter if…
- You are hiring many non-legal roles at once — office managers, marketing, IT — alongside legal ones, and a general board that carries every industry suits that mix.
- You would rather reach a general audience across every industry than a legal-only one.
- You want one board and one workflow for every kind of opening rather than a legal board sitting beside a general one.
- Most of your openings this quarter are non-legal, so a legal-only board would sit mostly idle.
Choose LawFirmHires if…
- The opening is a legal one — associate, paralegal, legal assistant, secretary, intake, docketing, billing, eDiscovery or firm administration — and you want the audience to be legal.
- You want a one-time price: $199 Standard or $399 Featured per post at launch pricing, with nothing that renews and no contract to sign.
- You want applications going straight to your own form or inbox, not into a platform inbox or a résumé database.
- You have several openings and would rather pay $899 or $1,749 a month for up to 10 or 25 always-live posts than post one at a time.
Choose the Above the Law Job Board if…
- You need a single legal listing, not a campaign.
- You want it inexpensive: a $200.00 Standard Listing visible 45 days.
- You would rather buy a single listing than start a plan or trial: the form's prices are per listing.
Choose iHireLegal if…
- You are hiring for legal roles continuously and can keep several slots busy at once.
- You want to swap jobs in and out of slots as requisitions open and fill.
- You want bundled tooling — branded email alerts, automatic 15-day refreshes, a free career site and applicant management — and the freedom to upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to post one legal job instead of using ZipRecruiter?
A Standard post on LawFirmHires is $199 at launch pricing for 30 days (the regular price is $299), and the Above the Law Job Board's Standard Listing is $200.00, visible 45 days.
LawFirmHires' post is a one-time payment with nothing that renews, and Above the Law's form sells listings per post.
Both sit on legal sites rather than general job boards.
Lawjobs.com also sells per-post packages, but its two pricing pages quoted different prices for its base package on the day we checked, so the clean low-price answers here are the first two.
Is there a free alternative to ZipRecruiter for legal hiring?
Indeed lets many jobs be posted free, subject to Indeed's terms, conditions, quality standards and usage limits — although some jobs are sponsored only, such as those aggregated from a career site, a data feed or an applicant tracking system, and Indeed reserves the right to require sponsorship for any reason.
Every price this comparison could verify on the legal boards is paid — a per-post price, a package or a subscription.
So the free start is Indeed's; the paid question is what happens after it.
How much does ZipRecruiter cost a law firm?
This comparison could not verify ZipRecruiter's plan prices on its own site: its employer pricing page showed only a bot-check screen on the day we looked, so its price is listed as Not published here.
A law firm weighing it against the boards above should get current pricing from ZipRecruiter directly — its own site is the only source that counts.
What does LawFirmHires cost compared with ZipRecruiter?
LawFirmHires publishes its prices: $199 for a Standard post or $399 for a Featured post, each a one-time payment for 30 days at launch pricing (regular $299 and $499), or a slot plan at $899 a month for up to 10 live posts or $1,749 a month for up to 25.
ZipRecruiter's prices could not be verified on its site when this page was checked, so a side-by-side cost comparison has to happen inside its own sign-up or sales flow.
Are legal-only job boards better than ZipRecruiter for hiring paralegals?
They solve different problems.
A legal-only board such as LawFirmHires lists a paralegal opening on a board built for legal roles — it runs 47 legal role pages — while ZipRecruiter is a general board that carries every other kind of job beside it.
If the goal is fewer off-target applications and a legal audience, the niche board fits; if the goal is one board for every kind of hiring at once, the general board fits better.
Do any of these alternatives post my job to other boards automatically?
Two do. iHire says every ad is promoted across the iHire network and partner sites like Google, Indeed and JobGet, and Lawjobs.com's Ultimate Reach package adds ALM eNewsletter and print placements plus partner-network distribution.
LawFirmHires distributes within its own board: a post appears on its matching role and city pages and in Google Jobs.
Can I post a legal job without a subscription?
Yes.
LawFirmHires sells single posts at $199 or $399 (launch pricing) with nothing that renews; the Above the Law Job Board sells a $200.00 Standard Listing visible 45 days; Lawjobs.com sells per-job packages; the ALA Job Board sells per-post tiers from $330 for members; and the NALS Career Center sells per-post Job Flash packages from $399 for members.
Subscriptions exist too: iHireLegal's job slots run $369–$799 a month and LawCrossing's Professional plan is $699 a month.
