Litigation Legal Assistant/Paralegal

van der Veen, Hartshorn & Levin is a fast-paced and growing law firm seeking a highly motivated Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our Personal Injury Department. We are an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer that values diversity in our workplace.

The primary responsibility of this position will be to support the attorneys’ with their caseload throughout all phases of litigation from case filing to trial preparation through settlement. The ideal candidate will be familiar in multi-tasking and organization skills.

An ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as work well with others as part of a team.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Legal Assistant/Paralegal will be responsible for:

• Assisting with preparation, filing and service of pleadings;
• Organizing the electronic and paper files;
• Handling the entire discovery process (i.e. answering written discovery, sending out written discovery requests, scheduling depositions etc...);
• Responding to all client calls in a timely manner;
• Properly documenting all communications in our case management system;
• Requesting and reviewing medical records, liens, etc…; and
• Drafting demand packets.

The Ideal Candidate should possess:

• Experience as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal in an office setting, preferably a personal injury firm;
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook;
• Strong time management and multitasking skills;
• Attention to detail; and
• Strong organizational skills.
