
Estate Planning and Probate Paralegal
Miller Law Office, P.C., a boutique law firm in Valencia California, with a substantial and growing estate planning practice, is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented full-time paralegal with experience in wills, trusts, trust administration, and probate. In this role, you will support our estate planning, trust administration, and probate practice by assisting with document preparation, client communications, legal research, and case management. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive paralegal with a passion for estate planning who wants to work directly with the supervising attorney and play a real role in each matter, from intake through execution and administration.
Responsibilities
· Prepare initial drafts of estate planning documents from attorney instructions and firm templates, including revocable trusts, pour-over wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, amendments and restatements, and certifications of trust.
· Prepare trust funding documents, including deeds, Preliminary Change of Ownership Reports, and assignments, and coordinate recording.
· Coordinate client signing meetings and notarization of documents.
· Assist with trust administration, including statutory notices, asset collection, date-of-death valuations, correspondence with beneficiaries and financial institutions, and preparation of trust accountings.
· Prepare probate petitions and Judicial Council forms, arrange publication, and e-file with the court.
· Conduct client intake interviews and gather information under attorney supervision.
· Maintain the firm calendar and track deadlines.
· Perform legal research as assigned.
Qualifications
· Paralegal certificate or other qualification meeting the requirements of California Business & Professions Code § 6450, along with ongoing compliance with its continuing legal education requirements.
· At least one (1) year of paralegal experience in a law office, including meaningful experience in estate planning and trust administration.
· Strong working knowledge of estate planning concepts and documents, including revocable living trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, trust amendments, and the relevant provisions of the California Probate Code.
· Experience assisting with trust administration and/or probate matters, including gathering asset information, communicating with beneficiaries and financial institutions, preparing correspondence and supporting documentation, assisting with accountings, and tracking important deadlines.
· Demonstrated ability to draft legal documents accurately from attorney instructions and firm templates, with strong proofreading skills and attention to detail.
· Legal research skills.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to conduct client intake professionally and compassionately, often with families who have recently lost a loved one.
