Why do law firms look for an alternative to Indeed for hiring?

Indeed's free organic posting is real, and it is the honest reason to stay: the pricing page says many jobs can be posted for free, subject to Indeed's terms, conditions, quality standards and usage limits.

For staff roles you hire for again and again — paralegals, legal secretaries, receptionists, intake — free reach in front of a general audience is a genuine advantage, and none of the paid legal boards on this page matches a free listing on price.

The trade-off sits on the paid side.

Some jobs are sponsored only — Indeed names jobs aggregated from a career site or company website, jobs published from a data feed and jobs published from an applicant tracking system — and Indeed "reserves the right to require that a job must be sponsored for any reason."

When you sponsor, there is no fixed price: the Standard price "is generated based on Indeed's recommendation system," the minimum appears on the sponsorship page, and the invoice reflects "the amount spent on job seeker interactions like clicks or started applications."

Accounts are billed on the first day of the month or when spending reaches $500, whichever comes first.

The tier ladder is Free, Standard ("3X more applications than free"), Premium — which appears in the top search results "2X more often" than Standard and adds the Urgently hiring label, AI matching and matched-candidate invites — and Premium Plus (Beta, an AI-powered Recruiting Assistant).

There are no long-term contracts, and you set the ad duration.

On Indeed's paralegal and attorney hiring pages, new US accounts that post a job are offered a $75 credit to sponsor their first job; the credit expires one year after account creation.

Glassdoor and SimplyHired are not separate routes: Glassdoor's employer page says "Grow your employer brand with Glassdoor.

Hire with Indeed.", and SimplyHired says a job posted through it — free or sponsored — also appears on Indeed.

What a general board does not give a firm is a room where every listing is legal.

The cost of a sponsored post moves with the pricing system rather than a published rate card, and the work of screening applications from outside legal lands on the firm.

What does LawFirmHires cost compared with Indeed?

LawFirmHires is a job board built only for legal jobs: openings for everyone a firm employs, from associates, partners and of counsel to paralegals, legal assistants, legal secretaries, intake teams, receptionists, docketing and billing staff and firm administrators.

In-house, government, prosecutor and public defender attorney roles are listed too, across 47 role pages.

Where Indeed's sponsored price is generated per job, LawFirmHires publishes its rates.

A Standard post is $199 (launch pricing; the regular price is $299) and a Featured post is $399 (regular $499) — each a one-time payment for a 30-day listing that never renews, with nothing to sign, published the moment payment goes through.

Firms that are always hiring can take a slot plan instead: Growth at $899 a month for up to 10 posts live at once, or Brand at $1,749 a month for up to 25 posts, all Featured.

Slot plans bill monthly, can be canceled whenever you choose, and are arranged by contacting LawFirmHires.

Applications come to you, not through the board: candidates who click Apply land on the firm's own form or inbox, and there are no candidate profiles or résumé database.

The LawFirmHires fact sheet lists every fact about us on this page with its source, and the pricing page carries the current rates.

What do Lawjobs, Above the Law and iHireLegal charge?

Lawjobs.com is ALM's legal job board — the footer reads "© Copyright 2026 ALM Global, LLC trading as Centellic," and its network list names The American Lawyer, National Law Journal, New York Law Journal, Texas Lawyer and The Recorder among its brands.

It sells three per-job packages: Ultimate Reach at $1,299 for a 60-day listing with a 2-week ad on a desired ALM regional or national eNewsletter, a 2-week print ad on a desired ALM newspaper, a spotlight in search results and distribution to its partner network; Extended Reach at $795 for a 30-day listing plus a 2-week regional ALM eNewsletter ad; and High Visibility at $695 for a 30-day listing.

It fits a firm that wants a listing plus ads across ALM's legal publications.

Above the Law's ATL Job Board lists a Standard Listing at $200.00, visible 45 days; a Featured option is also offered, with no price shown on the posting form.

It sits on Above the Law, which makes it a straightforward fit for a one-off attorney post at a known flat cost.

iHireLegal sells job slots instead of single posts: $369 a month for one slot, $450 for three and $799 for ten, falling to $316, $405 and $733 a month on quarterly terms.

You can swap a new opening into a slot whenever a seat fills, and upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time.

It fits a firm that is hiring continuously across several roles.

What do the ABA and NALA association job boards cost?

The ABA Career Center posts a 30-day Standard listing at $399 for ABA members and $449 for non-members.

Enhanced placement runs $449 / $499, the Job Flash package $649 / $739, Premium Job Flash $849 / $969 and the Ultimate Recruitment package $1,049 / $1,199.

Every price comes in a member and a non-member figure, so the cost turns on whether the hiring firm's attorneys already belong to the ABA.

NALA's Career Center job bank is the free option: "There is no fee to list."

The trade-offs are scope and review — jobs "must be of interest to Paralegals and must be reviewed and approved by NALA prior to posting," and NALA reserves the right not to approve submissions it considers unsuitable.

For a paralegal opening, and only a paralegal opening, it costs nothing to try.

NALA's bank is limited to paralegal-interest jobs by rule, so other staff openings need one of the other boards on this page.

Is LinkedIn a good alternative to Indeed for hiring attorneys?

LinkedIn is the other general option on this page, and the natural one for experienced attorneys: a promoted job post puts an opening in front of a professional network rather than a job-board audience.

That is the fit for a lateral attorney search, where the people a firm wants may not be browsing listings at all.

Promoted job posts are pay-per-click: LinkedIn says "you only pay for clicks in the country in which the job is posted," and you are not charged for clicks outside the job post's country.

We found no published price list, so like Indeed's sponsored side, the spend tracks the clicks a listing draws.

For staff hiring, the free and flat-priced routes above are the closer fit — a paralegal or docketing search rarely needs a professional network's per-click budget.

How should a law firm choose where to post a job?

Start with the pricing model, because that is what separates these boards:

  • Flat fee, known cost: LawFirmHires at $199 / $399 per 30-day post (launch pricing), or Above the Law at $200 for 45 days.
  • Always hiring: slots you can swap — iHireLegal from $369 a month, or LawFirmHires' own slot plans from $899.
  • Pay per interaction: Indeed Sponsored Jobs, where the bill follows clicks or started applications, and LinkedIn promoted posts, billed per click.
  • Free: Indeed's organic posts (subject to usage limits), SimplyHired's free postings through Indeed, and NALA's job bank for paralegal roles.

Then match the audience to the role.

Attorney openings suit the legal-only boards above, plus LinkedIn for lateral searches.

Staff openings — paralegals, legal assistants, secretaries, intake, docketing, billing — are where Indeed's free organic reach and a legal board with staff role pages complement each other: keep the free listing and add a flat-priced post in front of candidates searching legal role pages.

When you want one flat price for either side of the firm, post the job on LawFirmHires.

Which one should you choose?

Stay on Indeed if…

  • You want free organic posts for the staff roles you hire for again and again, and can absorb screening the applications that arrive.
  • You prefer paying per interaction with no contract and an ad duration you set, and a $75 first-job credit for new US accounts softens the first sponsored post.
  • You want a general audience that includes every industry, not just legal.

Choose LawFirmHires if…

  • You want a published flat price — $199 Standard or $399 Featured at launch pricing — instead of a sponsored price generated per job.
  • You hire on both sides of the firm: attorneys plus paralegals, legal assistants, secretaries, intake, docketing or billing staff.
  • You want applications going to your own form or inbox, with no résumé database in between and nothing to sign.

Choose the ATL Job Board if…

  • You want one post at a flat $200, visible 45 days.
  • You hire only occasionally, so a single listing beats a subscription.

Choose iHireLegal if…

  • You are hiring continuously and want slots you can swap as seats fill.
  • You want a published monthly rate — $369 for one slot, less per slot on quarterly terms — and the freedom to cancel at any time.

Choose NALA's job bank if…

  • The opening is a paralegal role and the budget for it is zero.
  • You don't mind NALA reviewing and approving the listing before it goes live.

Frequently asked questions

Is posting a job on Indeed actually free?

Often, yes: Indeed says many jobs can be posted for free, subject to its terms, conditions, quality standards and usage limits.

Some jobs are sponsored only — for example, listings aggregated from a career site, a data feed or an applicant tracking system — and Indeed reserves the right to require that a job must be sponsored for any reason.

How much does a sponsored job on Indeed cost a law firm?

Indeed publishes no fixed price: the Standard price is generated by its recommendation system, the minimum appears on the sponsorship page, and invoices reflect the amount spent on job seeker interactions like clicks or started applications.

Billing lands on the first day of the month or when account spending reaches $500, whichever comes first.

What is the cheapest flat-fee way to post an attorney job?

The published flat fees on this page start at LawFirmHires' $199 Standard post (launch pricing) and Above the Law's $200 Standard listing, visible 45 days.

Both are flat prices rather than per-click budgets, so the cost of the listing stays fixed even if traffic runs hot.

Does LawFirmHires charge per click like Indeed's sponsored jobs?

No. A Standard post is $199 and a Featured post is $399 at launch pricing (regular $299 and $499), each a one-time payment for a 30-day listing that never renews.

Firms that are always hiring can take a slot plan at $899 a month for up to 10 posts live at once or $1,749 a month for up to 25.

Where can a law firm post a paralegal job for free?

NALA's Career Center job bank takes employer submissions at no cost — "There is no fee to list" — as long as the job is of interest to paralegals and clears NALA's review before posting.

Indeed's organic posting can also be free, subject to its usage limits.

LawFirmHires itself does not offer a free posting option for employers.

Are Glassdoor and SimplyHired separate alternatives to Indeed?

Not really.

Glassdoor's employer page says "Grow your employer brand with Glassdoor.

Hire with Indeed.", and the combined reach the two sites self-reported — over 80% of U.S. online job seekers — is a Glassdoor figure about its own partnership.

SimplyHired states that a posting made through it, free or sponsored, also appears on Indeed.

Both route to the same hiring engine.

Do any of these boards require a contract?

Indeed says there are no long-term contracts and you set the ad duration.

LawFirmHires has no contract: single posts never renew and slot plans are monthly and can be canceled anytime. iHireLegal says you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time.

The other boards' pages we checked do not publish contract terms.
