Under the leadership of the Senior Manager, Practice Support Operations, this position will assist paralegals and attorneys with complex litigation matters and large-scale case projects throughout all phases of litigation. The Practice Area Specialist will utilize strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain case files and materials, support document review and productions, and handle electronic court filings in compliance with applicable court rules and procedures. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of litigation matters, collaborate with attorneys and paralegals across the firm, and develop skills that may lead to future growth opportunities, including advancement into a paralegal role. After an initial period of training, this position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists paralegals and attorneys with major case/large document case projects throughout all phases including trial preparation and trial.
  • Maintains case files for major cases/large document cases, and updates indices.
  • Organizes case materials and prepares and maintains indices for case-related document collections as requested.
  • Conducts manual and/or automated searches of case documents under the direction of a paralegal or attorney.
  • Scans documents and prepares scanned documents for saving in the document management system. Creates organizational systems for case documents, including preparing annotated binders and other case materials.
  • Assists paralegals or attorneys with deposition preparation.
  • Coordinates ESI from clients for eDiscovery purposes.
  • Maintains familiarity with applicable court filing procedures and local rules and electronically files documents with various courts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Must track all billable and non-billable hours.
  • Performs other duties as identified by supervising attorneys as necessary to provide professional, cost-effective legal representation to the client.
  • Participation in the Firm’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Program is required. A minimum of six hours of CLE credits and professional development courses are required annually. CLEs and professional development courses may be provided by the Firm, through outside educational sources or a combination thereof.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Must have strong technical skills including Adobe and the ability to quickly learn new technology.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills; ability to balance multiple projects, work independently and have strong time management skills, as well as prioritize workload.
  • Must be a dynamic and creative thinker, and adept at solving problems.
  • Must be proactive communicating issues relating to assignment expectations and the ability to meet deadlines or expectations.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of legal experience working in a paralegal assistant, legal administrative assistant or other administrative capacity required.
  • Experience completing electronic filings with courts, administrative agencies, and other adjudicative forums is preferred.

Compensation:

For applicants that meet the experience requirements for the role and are physically based in New York City, New York, the expected salary range is $73,000 – $90,000 annually upon commencement of employment. Starting salary will be determined on an individualized basis with consideration to prior experience and additional qualifications. This is in addition to a comprehensive benefit package offered by the Firm.
