Personal Injury Paralegal / Legal Assistant

Bence Law Firm is a personal injury firm in Phenix City, Alabama, serving clients across Alabama and Georgia. We handle personal injury only: car and truck wrecks, motorcycle crashes, wrongful death, premises liability, dog bites, and negligent security.

The Role

We're hiring a full-time Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support our attorneys, mainly on litigation, with crossover into pre-litigation claims. You will own your files and push them forward. We don't want someone who waits to be told the next step. You'll work directly with our senior attorney and claims team using our case management, client communication, and AI drafting platforms.

What You'll Do

• Move litigation files forward day to day: open new suits, prepare and organize pleadings, and track every deadline in Alabama and Georgia state and federal courts
• Draft discovery (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission) and first drafts of discovery responses for attorney review
• Schedule and prepare for depositions, mediations, and hearings, including notices, exhibits, summaries, and attorney prep packets
• Request, track, and follow up on medical records and bills until every file is complete
• Build medical chronologies and treatment and billing summaries
• Help assemble demand packages: liability facts, medical summaries, photos, and exhibits
• E-file and serve documents, and coordinate with courts, clerks, process servers, court reporters, and opposing counsel
• Keep clients updated through our client communication app and by phone, with empathy and professionalism
• Communicate with insurance adjusters and medical providers on claim status, records, and liens
• Use AI drafting and research tools to produce first drafts fast, then check them for accuracy
• Keep case files clean, current, and audit-ready in our case management system

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 2+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience; personal injury or insurance defense strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of civil litigation procedure, discovery, and court filing
• Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills
• Comfort with technology, including Microsoft 365 and cloud-based case management software, and a willingness to learn AI tools
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload without dropping deadlines
• Professional, warm communication with injured clients

Preferred:

• Paralegal certificate or degree
• Experience with Alabama and/or Georgia courts and e-filing (AlaFile, PeachCourt, Odyssey, or PACER)
• Experience with medical records, medical chronologies, or demand preparation
• Experience with legal AI or case management platforms
