If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as a Legal Assistant (Grand Jury Coordinator) with the United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Indiana. Typical work assignments will include: Conduct a variety of grand jury administrative duties associated with grand jury operations, i.e., transcribes, prepares and distributes both complex confidential legal correspondence, maintains files, logs, complaints, transcripts, reports and other confidential records of grand jury proceedings. Assembling all necessary information for presentation of indictments and obtaining documentation or other records required for presentation of a case to the grand jury. Scheduling appearances, coordinating returns of indictments, including witnesses, returns, and arraignments. Reviewing case information, or related factual information, to assist support staff, attorneys, and agents in planning and executing legal strategies. Ensuring grand jury materials and federal tax information by maintaining the security of Grand Jury files and records. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. *This position has promotion potential to the GS-08 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval. GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience providing information and assistance relating to grand jury investigations/matters scheduled for grand jury, and legal and administrative procedures to be followed; examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents; preparing legal actions such as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, and grand jury subpoenas. GS-8: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing information and assistance relating to grand jury investigations/matters scheduled for grand jury, and legal and administrative procedures to be followed; examines, prepares and processes a variety of technical legal documents which are characteristically voluminous and complex in format; prepares legal actions such as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, judgments, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, rules to show cause, proofs of claim, and satisfaction of judgment. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
