Front Desk Receptionist
Position: Front Desk Receptionist
Schedule: Monday- Friday (30 to 37.5 hours per week)
Pay: $15 per hour, based on experience
Location: Chattanooga, TN| In-office position
At Jelks Law, we help people protect what’s most important to them ~ their dignity, their family, and their business. We have the privilege of walking with people during the most important times of their lives whether it’s the birth of a new child, the death of the family matriarch, or launching a new business.
Because of that, the person at our front desk is incredibly important.
You are often the first person a client meets, the first voice they hear, and the first impression they have of Jelks Law.
We are looking for someone who genuinely loves people and has a natural gift for making others feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for.
What It’s Like to Work Here
One word: rewarding.
We help people during some of the most vulnerable times of their lives. While we can’t fix all of their problems, we can provide them with peace of mind that they, or the people they love, will be taken care of.
Okay, another few words: unlike anything you’ve experienced.
The individual and collective wellbeing of each team member comes first here. We would never once ask you to prioritize the firm over your wellbeing or your family. So, we offer flexibility that works for your needs – and we actually mean it. We know that if we take care of our team members, they will take care of the Firm.
So, at this point, you’re probably wondering - what’s the downside?
We are BUSY!
There is always something happening. Phones are ringing, clients are arriving, attorneys need things, and there is absolutely always something to do. We are fortunate to have a large client load and countless potential clients who want to work with us.
That is why we need you.
What We Need
We need a Front Desk Receptionist who is warm, outgoing, confident, and genuinely excited to interact with people.
We are looking for the person who can walk into a room and immediately make people feel comfortable.
You know how to read the room. You know when someone wants to chat and when they are nervous and need a little extra reassurance. You can strike up a conversation with just about anyone, but you also know when to give someone a little space.
You are the person clients remember because you made them feel like they belonged here.
Think Southern hospitality with a professional touch.
We want someone with the kind of personality that makes people say, “I just love them!” after meeting you for five minutes.
You should be naturally bubbly, friendly, and personable without being overbearing. You should enjoy talking to people, remember names, notice when someone needs help, and genuinely care about the experience people have when they walk through our doors.
And because this is a law firm, you also need to understand that our clients are sometimes coming to us during difficult or emotional seasons of their lives. Being cheerful is wonderful. Knowing how to adjust your energy to meet the person in front of you is even more important.
We can teach you our systems.
We can teach you our processes.
We can teach you the legal terminology.
We cannot teach you how to genuinely love people.
That is what we are looking for.
Example of Responsibilities:
· Greeting clients and visitors warmly when they arrive and helping them feel comfortable
· Offering clients something to drink and making sure they know where to go
· Answering incoming phone calls and directing calls appropriately
· Assisting our Intake Coordinator with calls when they are helping other callers
· Scheduling and confirming appointments
· Monitoring the front desk and keeping the reception area welcoming, clean, and organized
· Receiving and distributing mail and packages
· Assisting with scanning, copying, filing, and other basic administrative tasks
· Providing clients with copies of documents when requested
· Assisting with team lunches, birthdays, anniversaries, and other Firm celebrations
· Helping the team with general administrative tasks as needed
· Other duties that help keep the Firm running smoothly and our clients well cared for
The Person We Are Looking for
We are looking for someone who:
Previous law firm experience is not required.
Honestly, we would rather have someone with an incredible personality, a great work ethic, and a genuine love for people than someone with years of experience who does not enjoy interacting with clients.
We can teach you the job.
We are looking for you.

Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity Matter to Us
Studies show that diverse candidates are less likely to apply for a position if they do not wholeheartedly believe that they are 10,000% capable of fulfilling the job duties. We would rather have someone who is reliable, a quick learner, functions well under pressure and has a great personality over a well experienced candidate any day. We can teach you the skill set.
