Job Summary

Contract work. You must have experience in divorces, child custody, and judgments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with all stages of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, visitation, and spousal support matters.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research on procedural law, family law statutes, and relevant regulations to support case strategy.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and settlement agreements with precision and clarity.
  • Manage case files using document management systems like iManage and PCLaw; ensure all records are accurate, organized, and up-to-date.
  • Interview clients to gather detailed case information, document facts accurately, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Coordinate court filings, schedule hearings, and track deadlines to ensure timely compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Support litigation processes through document review, data entry, and preparation of exhibits for court presentations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders via phone and written correspondence.
  • Conduct legal research utilizing Westlaw and LexisNexis to gather pertinent case law and statutory information relevant to family law disputes.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing documents electronically or physically, proofreading legal drafts, and managing client records.

Requirements

  • Proven paralegal experience supporting family law cases or related civil litigation support roles.
  • Strong knowledge of procedural law specific to family law proceedings; familiarity with other areas such as estate planning or tribal law is a plus.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools including Westlaw and LexisNexis; experience with document management systems like iManage is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Experience with legal administrative tasks such as filing (electronic or paper), data entry, proofreading, and document review.
  • Familiarity with legal software including PCLaw and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of various areas of law including landlord-tenant law, personal injury law, workers' compensation law, securities law, UCC law (Uniform Commercial Code), patent law, immigration law, tribal regulations or environmental law is advantageous but not mandatory.
