This position is eligible to participate in the firm’s flexible work program.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with attorneys on client-billable projects, business development and/or pro bono matters to meet the firm’s minimum billable hours’ expectations (1700 total chargeable hours of which 1500 should be client-billable)
  • Monitor, communicate, and ensure compliance with reporting for state, local, and federal deadlines
  • Prepare and file quarterly LD-2 (activity/expense) reports and semi-annual LD-203 (contributions and certifications) reports
  • Collect internal records from corporate or firm lobbyists to verify billable hours, lobbying expenditures, and specific issues lobbied
  • Prepare and submit disclosure/compliance reports on behalf of clients
  • Research reporting requirements and prepare summaries and guidance for attorneys and clients
  • Establish internal systems for monitoring deadlines, tracking all data received, report submissions, and other information
  • Collect and securely maintain filing credentials and other information required to file submissions on behalf of clients
  • Assist in the creation and documentation of Election Law practice processes, including procedures and checklists for maintaining calendars, outreach to clients, and organization of information
  • Perform research in a variety of sources (e.g., publicly available databases, Westlaw/LexisNexis, scholarly research publications) and summarize findings to meet attorney and client needs
  • At attorney’s direction, may act as a liaison with clients, government entities, and other external parties through written and oral communication

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of lobbying reporting requirements across jurisdictions
  • Capable of preparing and submitting complete, accurate, and well-organized reports on behalf of clients
  • Consistently grow expertise in matters relevant to the practice area
  • Perform analysis of data and other information from clients and parties, private industries, Congressional sources, courts, and agencies
  • Conduct detailed and technical research under the supervision of attorneys (e.g., factual research tools, public or technical databases, LEXIS/Westlaw resources)
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both in oral and written form
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize/coordinate deadlines, and track progress of tasks
  • Able to organize workflow and use time efficiently, experience with process management/improvement a plus
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail as well as accuracy and consistency
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships in or out of a team environment, including collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Consistently demonstrate of growth in substantive skills and knowledge of practice area
  • Demonstrate high proficiency in the use of office productivity applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power PDF), aptitude for learning new software strongly preferred
  • Understands and adopts the organizational structure
  • Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours, including use of mobile email
  • Travel locally as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field a plus
  • Experience with election law, lobbying, or campaign finance work preferred

OTHER DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Meets the department’s expectations to retrieve, read and/or respond to firm and client-related e-mail messages during and outside of core business and scheduled work hours by connecting a personal mobile device (smartphone or tablet with a data plan) to the firm’s network

The base salary for this position is expected to be between $90,000 to $110,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
